So.cl Available For Everyone

The new social network, So.cl, launched in December by Microsoft which is basically a research project, now has been opened for everyone after 5 months.

In December, a new social network, So.cl (pronounced as Social) launched by FUSE Labs of Microsoft, which was initially limited to the students of:

  • University of Washington
  • Syracuse University
  • New York University.

Though, it was launched by Microsoft as a research project, So.cl has been opened for anyone by opening up public side of the So.cl website. It can be opened up by sign in through your Windows Live ID or your Facebook account, provided you are 18 years of age or over.

Working Features of So.cl

1.Here, you may choose to follow people in So.cl news feed, i.e. news sharing.
2.You are free to join any group of your like, such as,

  • Food
  • Music
  • Movies
  • Games
  • Any other group liked by you.

3.Here, you have the facility to even watch the videos at the same time, with your other So.cl friends.
4.You may upload/post your own messages for your So.cl followers.
5.Before accessing the message, you would have to agree to a license agreement for starting the service.
6.Being an open search research experiment, your searches are open to other users as well as to the third parties.
7.Your comments, searches or likes to your Facebook friends are not automatically posted unless opted by you.
8.Your Facebook friends are not contacted unless invited by you.
9.This project is run by the FUSE Labs of Microsoft and it is not associated with Bing.

Following the huge popularity of Facebook (with almost one billion members), many IT giants thought of such projects. Google was the first to start competition with the Facebook by launching the Google+. It success was highlighted with the membership of 400 million at the end of Year 2011.

Now, So.cl is just another such adventure by another IT giant, the Microsoft but unlike Google+, So.cl is moving slowly and do not want to give the impression of open competition with Facebook or Go0gle+.
