First Look at So.cl, the First Social Network by Fuse Labs, Microsoft Research

Microsoft has entered the marathon of social networks by launching So.cl, pronounced as ‘social’. The software giant, Microsoft, has finally entered the social network war by launching So.cl which is available for trial to small number of people.

A project of Fuse Labs by Microsoft Research, So.cl is a combined form of social network as well search engine. Designed specifically for students this new social network is very beneficial for college and university students.

Here are some of the major features of So.cl:

  • Search the whole So.cl or search the web for your favorite content using Bing Search
  • You can share specific search results as status updates and also comment on them
  • Share the searched content with your friends in So.cl
  • Share videos with your friends and also interact with your friends while using ‘Video Parties’.

This social network is still in initial stages of trial and only specific/invited people can join So.cl.

The project is being tested with the help of students of the following universities:

  • University of Washington
  • Syracuse University
  • New York University

We have already seen a social network in-fact, the most popular and the giant of all, Facebook, which was initially launched by some college students for specific fellow students of specific universities. After, successful launch in colleges, Facebook was opened for the US and then universally. Now, it is the most visited site on web after Google.com.

Let’s hope Microsoft’s Fuse Lab’s new project, So.cl, will be successful as Facebook.

We recently saw a new social network by Search Giant, Google named as Google+ which was also firstly available in trial and then was opened for public few months back.

We will be posting an article on complete features of So.cl soon.
